Must see Superleague basketball
in Letterkenny this week

Superleague basketball is coming to Letterkenny for one night on Nov 25th. Ballina Braves basketball club (Team Merry Monk) has decided to play one of their “home” games in Letterkenny IT Sports Centre. Throw in for the game is 8pm.
The game is a cross conference game against Neptune. Ronan McGarrity plays for Ballina and basketball was always his first choice sport. Ronan attended college in the US on a basketball scholarship. He has also represented his country at underage level.
Please note that each Superelague team has two American players - they are professionals and get paid. Ballina’s are Chris Smith (the league top scorers on 35pts per game) and Robert Taylor. The latter played with Limerick Lions last season and was MYP at the cup finals weekend.
A Bosman player is also allowed and is paid. Ballina’s Bosman is Englishman Jay Marriott. The latter is a player that holds a European passport. For more details on basketball in Ireland and the game in general please go to www.basketballireland.ie.

BOSCO CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

The St. John Bosco Athletic Club will celebrate 50 years of athletic activity in Donegal Town in 2007. Founded in 1957 by Michael Cooney, it has gone from strength to strength and now boasts a membership of over 180 athletes. To mark this special year the St. John Bosco AC has produced a limited edition Commemorative Calendar full of photographs and memories of athletic achievement throughout the last five decades. The calendars go on sale this Friday at our annual awards night, November 24th 2006, and will be available at many outlets around town. To ensure that you get your copy we advise you to purchase early, especially if you want to catch the deadlines for postage overseas. The calendar would make an ideal Christmas gift for family and friends. It is full of images of athletes and coaches (in glorious colour) that have competed, or been part of St. John Bosco AC over the past 50 years. See can you spot anyone you know!
The cost per calendar is €10and all proceeds go towards the Track Development Fund. The St John Bosco AC Club, in conjunction with the Co Donegal VEC, were awarded money from the Capital Sports Grants Fund by the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism to develop an all-weather, multi-purpose, multi-disclipline training area on the site of the all-weather area adjacent to the Abbey Vocational School. This will be a state-of-the art facility that will be of huge benefit to the pupils of the AVS, The St. John Bosco AC, and the wider community in Donegal Town and its environs. The production of the calendar is part of our ongoing fundraising drive to match the grant that we received.
Calendars will be available from Pauline Maguire, 086-8211148, Angela Mehegan, 087-2789435, Eamon Harvey 074-9721578 and through the St John Bosco AC, and also at outlets where notices are posted. We urge you again to get your order in early as it is a limited edition. We hope that you enjoy the images and that they evoke fond memories of times past. There is also plenty to see of our present athletes who keep the spirit of the St John Bosco Club alive.
We would also like to acknowledge the generous support of all those who sponsored advertisements and to everyone who gave us photos, images and slides for use in the calendar. Nollaig Shona Agat. Pauline Maguire, Angela Mehegan, Fundraising Committee,
